Back in April rumors started popping up that Google was testing some kind of VoIP integration directly within Gmail -- a move that makes obvious sense as an attack on Skype -- given it can be integrated perfectly with Google Voice. That said, it's not particularly surprising to see rumors popping up today that indicate this Google VoIP integration is coming very soon. Details remain skimpy -- outside of the fact that there will be a new phone icon in Gmail offering users access to a new menu including a dialpad, an option to find contacts, a credit balance and a call button (see photo). Judging from the level of blogo-journalist hype surrounding this barely substantive evidence, it's clear people are ready to see Google completely integrate their Gizmo5 acquisition from a few years back, making their Skype-killing, AT&T voice revenue eating GMail/Google Voice death star completely operational.
